The Norton Anthology of English Literature - The Major Authors, 8th edition.
The Norton Anthology of British Literature - Major Authors, 8th edition.
There are several versions of this anthology, so please be careful to get this one. This is not the current edition of this anthology, therefore it is a whole lot cheaper and nearly as good. You can find an inexpensive used version available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or at Alibris. This anthology has several novels included in it, as well as short stories, poetry, essays, and great introductions to the different movements in literature.
Animal Farm, by George Orwell
Again, please get this exact version so we won't get page numbers mixed up, etc. A new or used version can be purchased at Amazon, or easily at other booksellers.
Macbeth (Shakespeare Made Easy)
This version is great, with side-by-side text of Shakespeare's original version next to a modern English version if students get stuck on the language. It should only run about $6-7, and is available online at various sellers and at Amazon.
Creative Writing 101 -
Writing Fiction [In High School], by Sharon Watson
This will be our primary text for this class. I will also give out handouts, etc, but this is the only book students will need to purchase class. They should also bring a spiral notebook with several sections in it, a folder or binder to keep handouts and past work in, and plenty of pencils or pens. It is available on Amazon or at Rainbow Resource.
The Last Book in the Universe, by Rodman Philbrick
This short novel is used as an example throughout our writing book to highlight different techniques in creative writing and in writing a novel. It is around $6 new on Amazon, or cheaper used. You can find it here.
